The gameplay was more strategic and tactical but it also suffered from a really crappy '2.5D' engine that caused some issues. I think that MECHANICALLY it is the best game since WWP but in terms of various gameplay elements and items available Clan Wars was far superior.
I do think that on the whole WMD is a good game but it could have been better in many ways. The W:A update has nothing to do with the Worms 2020 teaser. It's been "coming soon" for a long time now (years) but according to recent news it should be ACTUALLY coming out soon. It's not Team17 who is developing it, but rather independent coders who have worked on the game already in the past as well as a couple of others. Yes, the 3.8 update for W:A should be coming out soon. by making a game that can hardly be improved upon. yes i heard everywhere it was the best since armageddon, i guess the classic just left expectations way too high for the franchise.

No question that armageddon is the best, at the same time. Best gameplay feel / mechanics, least bugs, and there will be a huge update coming out soon for it which will add so much more.
That said, the best Worms title is still W:A. WMD mechanically is a lot more solid and has more to offer overall. The art style is nice but the gameplay itself is crap.
